West Virginia's cesarean rate, according to the CDC increased by 54% between 1996 and 2007. As of 2007, the most current year available from the CDC, West Virginia's cesarean rate was 35.2%, one of the highest in the nation.
“My doctor says he doesn’t do VBACs, but I don’t want another cesarean.”

ICAN of Greater Charleston WV is a chapter of the International Cesarean Awareness Network. ICAN is a not-for-profit organization that promotes awareness and education during pregnancy, assists with recovery during postpartum, and promotes VBACs for subsequent births. ICAN also advocates for protection against VBAC bans and provides a database of VBAC-friendly hospitals and providers.
